Alexandria, VA –  The MedEvac Foundation International has awarded its first Dr. Suzanne Wedel Scholarship to W. Ashley Smith, Jr., President and DOO of Jet Logistics Inc. The award will be utilized to help sponsor Mr. Smith attending the 2017 Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) Graduate School.

“Mr. Smith receives the scholarship based on his dedication to safety and quality measures not only at Jet Logistics, but also in the wider medical transport industry,” stated representatives of the MedEvac Foundation during the announcement. “Because of his myriad experiences, he has gone to great strides to increase his knowledge of the medical aspects of the industry.”

Mr. Smith is a veteran of the commercial and business aviation sectors who works with many commercial and government agency boards to advance aviation safety, pilot training, and operational standards. His extensive board and council leadership includes work on behalf of NBAA, NATA, CAMTS, FAA, and NC Aviation Task Force. Present or past roles include former Chairman of the NBAA Domestic Operations committee, Treasurer on Executive Board for CAMTS, industry lead for the FAA Air Carrier Training for Helicopter Air Ambulance (HAA), and member of the FAA’s Air Carrier Aircrew Training Working Group, Aviation Regulatory Committee (ARC), and ACT ARC Pilot Check Group.

ABOUT W. ASHLEY SMITH, JR.
W. Ashley Smith, Jr. founded Jet Logistics Inc. in 2002 in North Carolina; JLI subsequently grew from primarily a corporate passenger charter Part 135 operator into one of the nation’s leading air medical and government contracting air carriers over the past 15 years. He has held positions including Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, Director of Maintenance, and Check Airman, accumulated over 14,000 hours as a multi-engine ATP with 5 type ratings, CFI, CFII, and MEI. Smith, Jr. is also a veteran airline mechanic with A&P certification with Inspection Authorization,  Certified Aviation Manager (CAM), Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE), Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), and Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR-T)
